Pax Jolie~Pitt
Pax Thien Jolie~Pitt was born on November 29, 2003 in Vietnam. He was abandoned at birth at a local hospital and was initially named Pham Quang Sang. On March 15, 2007, Angelina Jolie adopted him, at the age of 3, from Tam Binh Orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City.
Brad Pitt and Angelina had visited the Orphanage in November 2006. Jolie adopted the boy as a single parent, because Vietnam’s adoption regulations don’t allow unmarried couples to co-adopt.
Pax’s introduction to his new movie-star mother was slightly difficult. When Jolie knelt down to speak to him, the boy started crying. Angelina wasn’t fazed. Jolie told the director of the orphanage, that she understands, that it is normal for all young children to be scared. Then Angelina took the boy aside in a separate room for the boy to recover his composure. “Later he was ok, very cheerful and happy. He even played with his new brother Maddox” the director said.
After some time, Brad and Angelina shared more information about their process with the adoption. When asked, “How is Pax adjusting to his new life?” Angelina answered, “The first two days, he cried a lot. I hired a translator, and he would explain what was going on. The first night, I slept alone with him. I was expecting him to wake up and scream, but he woke and just stared at me. I handed him a stuffed animal, and we walked around the room pointing at things. By day three, he didn’t want me to put him down. I think he got used to the reality that somebody loves you and that’s what a mommy is.”
She also shared that Pax loves his newfound freedom: “Pax is almost three and a half and has never made a real decision for himself because everybody does everything in a group in the orphanage. There were all these things he’d never had. The first time I gave him a bath, he was suddenly laughing, out of his mind. He took five baths in one day. We’d be talking and he’d take his clothes off and run into the bathroom.”
Angelina later reveled his name, Pax (which means Peace in Latin), was suggested by her mother before she died. Thien (means sky in Vietnamese). At the time of his adoption he joined siblings 5 year old Maddox (adopted from Cambodia), 2 year old Zahara (adopted from Ethiopia), and baby Shiloh, the Jolie~Pitt’s biological daughter who was born in Namibia. Pax is now also big brother to Knox and Vivienne Jolie~Pitt, the couples biological twins. Grandparents are Bill & Jane Pitt, Jon Voight, & the late Marcheline Bertrand. Aunt is Julie Neal Pitt. Uncles are Doug Pitt and James Haven.
