Maddox Chivan Jolie~Pitt was born on August 5, 2001 as “Rath Vibol” in Camboida. He initially lived in a local orphanage in Battambang.
Angelina Jolie, married to Billy Bob Thornton at the time, applied for adoption after she had visited Cambodia twice, while filming Tomb Raider and on a UNHCR field trip in 2001.
Angelina adopted Maddox on March 10, 2002 when he was just seven months old. She recieved sole custody of Maddox after she divorced Thornton.
Years later, the baby’s name was changed to Maddox Chivan Jolie~Pitt after he was jointly adopted by Brad Pitt. He is the oldest child of Brad and Angelina; the big brother to Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne Jolie~Pitt. Grandparents are Bill & Jane Pitt, Jon Voight, & the late Marcheline Bertrand. Aunt is Julie Neal Pitt. Uncles are Doug Pitt and James Haven.
